Emma started 1st grade!

Emma was so excited to start 1st grade and to RIDE THE BUS! She's basically been waiting for years to ride the bus. Here's her 1st experience riding the bus:

As we are the last stop for the bus pickup in the morning, it is pretty full. Emma's always wanted to ride in the back, so she headed to the back of the bus to find that the older kids ride back there. They told her that she couldn't sit back there and she had to sit in front. :( (this just hits too close to Forest Gump). Well, the next day the bus driver told her that she could ride wherever she'd like (as she's not a kindergartner). So, towards the back she went and this time she told them "uh uh! The bus driver said I could sit back here!" WOW! I'm proud of my Emma girl for standing up for herself! I didn't know if she had that in her! :)

Her first day of school was great. It was busy in the morning getting her ready in time for the bus to come as we have NOT been even remotely close to being morning people this summer (hence the lack of many pictures). It all happened so fast and then she was gone! :( I miss her so much when she's at school, but I think it will be good for Lils and I to have some good time together.

Her school is so nice! It's a brand new school. It is HUGE though and already ripping at its seams. I know there are 11 kindergarten classes and 11 1st grade classes. Being that we just moved, we registered her the week before school started. She is actually an "extra" in her class as state law only permits there to be I believe 22 in a class. They told us that if nobody dropped out of her class (moved), then they'll have to hire another teacher and she'll be switched. So, after waiting 1 HOUR for Emma to get home off the bus (it just took longer being the 1st day), all she said is "I don't want to switch teachers." So far, they haven't said anything, but we really liked her teacher and hope she gets to keep her.

Unfortunately, she's already missed out on getting a perfect attendance award. On Tuesday she went to the nurse for what looked like a bug bite on her arm. That night she showed me her tummy, legs, etc. that were covered in dots. It looked like chicken pox for sure! The doctor says that she doesn't think it's chicken pox, but just a viral infection. They are already going away, so that's good. But now she has like a 40% attendance rate. Not a very good start.
